Sulpice BRIZARD, exceptional stamped swivel armchair, Louis XVI period.

Particularly remarkable piece for this magnificent Louis XVI period office armchair with rotating seat in molded, carved and gilded wood stamped by the highly prized master cabinetmaker, Sulpice Brizard (1735-1798).
The enveloping backrest is sculpted at its top with a duo of roses, one open and the other closed, already revealing the sculpting talent of Sulpice Brizard.
The belt sculpted with flowers, foliage and rosettes, rests on tapered, fluted and roughened legs.

Magnificent original gilding with gold leaf, restored by an art gilder.

Excellent quality leather trim.

Museum piece Stamped S. BRIZARD, for Sulpice Brizard supplier to the Crown recognized for its finesse, its originality and as Francois de Salverte wrote: "its pleasant fantasy".

Having married Marie-Genevieve Meunier, daughter of Master cabinetmaker Étienne Meunier, Sulpice Brizard was admitted to the master's degree on February 13, 1762 and established himself on rue de Cléry.
Most of his work belongs to the Louis XVI style, with models with very beautiful proportions, finely sculpted and executed with great refinement.
We can distinguish more original features, such as sofas and armchairs with a front belt that is not convex, as usual, but concave.
The National Furniture, the Palace of Versailles and the Carnavalet Museum among others, have several works in gilded wood by him dating from this same period.
These works are now rare and particularly prized.
