"Rene-marie Castaing : “sleeping Woman”"
René-Marie Castaing (1896-1943) : “Study of a sleeping woman”, charcoal, red chalk and white chalk on kraft paper 34 x 44 cm, mounted with a neutral pH mat in a molded oak frame 50 x 60 cm. Signed and dated 1942. Trace of the old Marie-Louise with a tighter framing. The immense artist René-Marie Castaing (1896-1943), First Grand Prix de Rome 1924, particularly excelled in works on paper: charcoal, pastels or gouaches. If I never met him for obvious reasons of dates, his birthplace was right opposite the Galerie de Pau! With a sensitivity that allowed him to capture the soul of his models, he gives us here a striking study in light angle of a sleeping woman visibly captured from life with incredible virtuosity.
