Edmond Marie Petitjean is a French painter and illustrator born July 5, 1844 in Neufchâteau (Vosges) and died on August 7, 1925 in Paris. Biography Painter of landscapes and seascapes, Edmond Marie Petitjean exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1874. He obtained an honorable mention at the Salon of French Artists of 1881 and became a member of this institution in 1883. He obtained the 1st class medal in 1884 and 2nd class medal the following year. He painted several Atlantic ports and stayed in Dordrecht around 1886. He participated in the decoration of pavilions for the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1889 and obtained a silver medal there. The following year, he exhibited in Munich. He was named a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1892. In 1900, he participated in decorating the golden room of the Le Train bleu restaurant at the Gare de Lyon in Paris with his Le Puy1 wall panel. He won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. Petitjean delivered humorous drawings to periodicals such as Le Frou-frou, L'Assiette au Beurre, etc. On June 25, 1904, he married Jeanne Lauvenay2, painter, known under the name of Jeanne Lauvenay-Petitjean. He died on August 7, 1925 at his home at 48, boulevard des Batignolles in the 17th arrondissement of Paris3.
