Very beautiful oil/panel by Charles Menneret representing rocks on the edge of the Breton coast, signed lower left + address of the painter in Paris avenue Trudaine on the back + marked Bréhat in pencil. Format of the painting only hoirs frame 27x46cm It is therefore a superb piost-impressionist composition by Charles Menneret, as 9 times out of 10 it represents a Breton landscape, here the rating, according to an indication on the back it could be 'act of rocks on the island of Bréhat, which would be logical because Menneret painted quite a bit in this region, between Paimpol, Loquivy, Ploubaszlanec and the island of Bréhat where he spent a large part of his time when he was not was not in his Parisian studio. Charles Menneret was born on January 22, 1876 in Paris, son of Louis Menneret, inspector of Public Assistance, and Clotilde Jardel. He married in 1901 Marguerite Vincent with whom he had a daughter, Yvonne Menneret. Charles Menneret is a landscape painter, member of the Académie Julian, former student of Antoine Guillemet and Georges Jules Moteley. He began his career in Paris where he had a workshop at 17 avenue de Trudaine facing the Sacré-Cœur basilica in Montmartre. He exhibits in different galleries and exhibitions. At the age of 34, he was selected by the Society of French Artists to exhibit his paintings at the Grand Palais during the 1910 salon. Charles Menneret painted in oil on canvas and oil on wood. he uses an indefinitely simple palette which only includes soft and light colors. The works of Charles Menneret give an impression of solitude, sunny mists, delicate atmospheric effects, infinite subtleties in the half-tones. Charles Menneret excels in the art of what we could call “layout”: he knows how to create a harmonious balance in his paintings, a balance which gives them their distinction and charm. A large part of his work is devoted to Brittany, a region of his heart that he is particularly fond of, where he resides for several months of the year in Loquivy. His favorite place in his work: the strip of land which extends from the tip of Arcouest to Paimpol, facing the island of Bréhat. J.-H. He placed his easel at the edge of the numerous ponds in the Rambouillet forest near Hermeray where he lived until his death in 1954. Charles Menneret is buried in the Hermeray cemetery. Charles Menneret was named Knight of the Legion of Honor on January 14, 1932 for his artistic work on the recommendation of the Minister of Industry and Fine Arts.
