Antoinette Trebuchet
Painter of landscapes, portraits, flowers, still lifes and creator of “Western” icons, she was born in Roubaix in 1894. She died in Lille in 1985 where she had resided since 1976 but was buried at the Basilica of Saint -Rock. -Léon Cemetery in Bayonne. She was a student of Cormon at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and there met her future husband, the painter André Trébuchet, whom she married in 1925. With him she participated in the decoration of the ceiling of the chapel of the College. Saint Bernard. Around 1956 she began to create Western icons: Madonnas on a wooden background, carved with a chisel, lacquered with gold leaf, covered with sequins, tapestries, rich fabrics, embroidery and inlays of glass, mother-of-pearl and pearls.
She received various awards such as the Grand Prix de l'École Française, Fondation Alfred Chagniot, in 1969 in Paris and the International Contemporary Sacred Art Prize in 1974 in Lyon for her icons.
Numerous exhibitions:
1925: He exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français.
1927: Bayonne, Antoinette Duvivier and André Trébuchet exhibition at the Basque Museum.
1935: Bayonne, presents Sous-bois at the Exhibition of Bayonnais Artists.
