Tancrède Synave ( 1860 -1936) studies with Benjamin Constant, Jules Lefebvre and Gabriel Ferrier at the Académie Julian. He made a name for himself by painting different worldly subjects and portraits. His favorite subjects are the representation of children playing, theater scenes and portraits of women.
The intensity of the touch, the bright colors, the particularity of the compositions are elements which allow us to assimilate the work of Tancrède Synave with that of Louis Valtat or Henri Lebasque.
He exhibits at the Salon des artistes français throughout of his career, which extended from 1893 to 1936.
He received the Medal of Honor in 1894, the Third Class Medal in 1901, as well as the Gold Medal in 1924. In 1928, he founded with among others, Jean-Gabriel Domergue, Henri Deluermoz, Paul Jouve, Charles Fouqueray, Élisabeth Chaplin, Émile Aubry, an artistic movement called “Tradition-Evolution” It involves representing works combining research and contemporary artistic innovations with the classical academic tradition from which many artists came.
