"Fernand Daucho (1898-1982) is little known to the general public. An exhibition at the Faouët museum in 2011 changed the situation somewhat. All of his work is abundant and unusual. Seriously injured in the 14/18 war since he had an arm amputated... he settled in Pont-Aven in 1924. (He spent a brief period in Eure et Loire during the war of 39/40 before returning to Pont-Aven). part of the second generation of painters from ''the city of mills''.
During his first stay in Pont Aven, he became friends with Émile Jourdan, the last representative of the first generation of the city of painters, Fernand Daucho. then, became a true transmitter of knowledge of the history of the Pont-Aven School. He wrote numerous articles, carrying out meticulous and passionate research “Jourdan, painter of Pont-Aven” “Meyer de Hann. in Brittany » “The Yellow Christ by Gauguin” “The house of Paul Sérusier in Brittany” …. Among others, he saves from oblivion, the paintings of Meyer de Hann, left by the latter to Marie Henry at Pouldu. At the same time, encouraged by his friends, Maurice Asselin and Maurice de Vlaminck, he continued to paint.... His painting is figurative, in a simplified palette. It is part of what has been called: ''the return to order''. In 1958, everything changed.... “Geometry seems to have completely taken control of Fernand Daucho's universe. The painter then developed a new formal vocabulary, based on the combination of straight lines and segments of circles, to which is added the extensive use of colored areas. (Jean marc Milhaud. Fernand Gaucho – 2011). His subjects are almost always inspired by current events but are imbued with poetry and humor."
