Subject: The tapestry represents a mythological scene "Venus visiting Vulcan in his forge", Episode from the Story of Achilles. There are characters, some of whom wear armor and attributes related to war. The presence of a central character "Venus", dressed in a blue cloak and presenting an object (a shield), suggests. The other characters could be angels, war heroes, or craftsmen working with metal.
The composition: The composition is dynamic, with characters arranged in space to create a sense of movement. The landscape in the background, with its trees and hills, adds depth to the image.
The colors: The colors are rich and varied, with dominant blues, reds and greens. The colors are used to create contrasts and highlight the different elements of the composition.
The technique: The tapestry was made by the Brussels manufature in the 18th century by the "VAN DER BORCHT workshop" using high warp, a complex weaving technique that allows for very fine details. Wool and silk threads are used to create the colors and textures.
