Known for his very large production as well as for the longevity of his reputation, eldest son of the carpenter Claude I Sené, Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené established himself unequivocally as the most famous Parisian carpenter of his lineage. From the rue de Cléry at the sign of the "Gros Chapelet" where he practiced, his talent very quickly aroused a great deal of interest in the early years of his career in the service of a private clientele to whom he delivered Louis XVI chairs with pure, neat, refined, well-proportioned, but classic lines. From 1785 to 1791, he was among the regular suppliers of the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne with Jean-Baptiste Boulard. He then received orders for the châteaux of Saint-Cloud, Versailles, Fontainebleau and Compiègne for the King, the Queen and also for several members of the royal family, for whom he produced chairs of the highest and finest quality. For the most elaborate orders, he collaborated with Boulard.
