"Virgin And Child, Limoges Enamels By L. Laudin, 17th Century "
Beautiful and large oval plaque in polychrome painted enamel from Limoges, representing the Virgin and Child, in a composition full of sweetness. Mary, with clasped hands and inclined gaze, tenderly watches over the Infant Jesus asleep in her arms. The scene is surmounted by a medallion depicting the dove of the Holy Spirit, radiating golden light in the clouds. The palette is very rich, dominated by deep blues, bright reds and ivory flesh tones, magnified by an intense black background. The champlevé enamel frame decorated with white scrolls accentuates the elegance of the whole.
On the back one can read: Laudîn aux faubourgs de Maligne à Limoges.
The plaque is signed LL, probably for Léonard Laudin II, member of the famous family of enamellers.
