Biography:


Jules Jacques Veyrassat, born in Paris in 1828 and died in 1893, was a French painter and engraver of the Barbizon School.


Trained in Paris in Henri Lehmann's studio, he exhibited his first works at the Salon from 1848. Veyrassat quickly distinguished himself with his paintings and engravings, receiving several medals between 1866 and 1869. He collaborated with Philip Gilbert Hamerton on several works about the art of engraving.


Appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1878, Veyrassat was one of the most awarded artists for his depictions of nature. Associated with the Ecouen School and the Barbizon School, his realistic work was inspired by French rural life.


His works are present in numerous public collections:
