Power of this composition which is so strongly inspired by the grammar of Corot, its simplification of the plans, without romantic affectations, Pure nature, its sketched and yet bewitching, complex aspect, which preserves realism while purifying it, announcing Cézanne, proceeding by touches and colored "masses" from which light springs. We identify by iconographic (and topographic) the island of Batz, probably on the side of the exotic garden, the pontoon did not exist then but we can recognize the division of the reef, the island and opposite the coast of Roscoff . This divine encounter between the sea at low tide and the land, the roughness of the granite which contrasts with the luxuriance of this green island benefiting, like Roscoff, from a micro-climate conducive to vegetation and the emergence of the most exotic species. And blessed are the houses to the left of the composition, on the side of the rock, which seem to throw themselves into the sea. A unique Breton woman with an impeccable headdress comes to animate this unaltered landscape.
